Write Down your Starlink Hardware Data

This information is important to your potential buyer, as it will help them activate Starlink on their details.

There are two numbers you can take down to activate the dish, and either one can be used. It is wise to note both, though!

The first one is the device ID, which is easy to find. Go to the account portal on the website or app, go to manage the hardware you’re selling, and you will find the device ID. You can also find this ID in the Starlink box.

The other identifier is the terminal ID, which you can find in the advanced section of the Starlink app.

Stop your Starlink Service

You have to cancel your service before selling your kit. Before canceling, you have to make sure that your monthly statements and any outstanding orders are done and up to date.

To cancel Starlink, go to the app or website, and go to the account portal.

Then, click on manage next to the plan you want to cancel, and hit the button that says cancel service.

State your reason for canceling the plan, and don’t forget to uncheck the option to return the hardware. Then, press confirm to cancel.

Start the Transfer

To do the transfer, you can go to the account portal and go to the hardware you want to do it on.

There is an option to click transfer next to it. Then, you would have to confirm that you accept the conditions of the action, and your hardware will be out of your account.

There is no reverse after this! Your internet from Starlink will stop.

Keep your Starlink Hardware Ready

After all the technicalities, start packing your hardware from the Starlink kit. You have to make sure that the dish, cable, power cords, router, and mount are in the package for the buyer to set up at their home.

And You can factory reset the Starlink router and mesh nodes you may be selling with your kit.

You can pack everything into the original Starlink box if you still have it. If you don’t, make sure you pack everything neatly and safely.

You don’t want to damage the hardware; therefore, you must be careful!

Talk to the Buyer

Finally, when the nitty-gritty is done, you can find a buyer for your kite and let them know how to activate the hardware independently.

Give them the ID numbers from the first step. Show the buyer how to sign up on Starlink, and have to go through the process for any plan they want.

The ID numbers help them activate their service with the hardware.

How to Buy a Used Starlink Kit

Buying a second-hand kit is not hard and not much different from normally buying Starlink from the website.

Go to the Starlink website and punch your address in the search bar. When you find it, then go to order now.

You have to ensure that you are ordering from the internet plan page of Starlink and choose the plan you want to have.

On the order page, you will see lots of options that you have to fill out. Regarding the hardware option, click the box that says you already have your Starlink.

When you do this, you will be asked to type in the device ID or terminal ID. If the textbox does not come on your screen, your area does not have space.

You would have to wait until it is to buy your hardware.

Can I Cancel/Reverse a Transfer?

If you are the seller, you cannot cancel the transfer. When the buyer activates the hardware on their account, you cannot add it back.

However, if the deal does not happen before the buyer activates the dish, you can sell it to someone else.

If you decided to keep your kit, you would have to do the buyer activation with the ID number back to your existing account or a new one.

If you are the buyer and you activated the hardware, you can cancel it if you want.

How Long Does It Take Until an Account Is Transferred?

Starlink says that the account transfers happen almost immediately, meaning that once you and the buyer do all the steps necessary.

So, the account transfer depends on how fast you sell the kit and when the new owner activates it. The new owner will be billed as soon as it is activated.

How to Fix the Invalid Device ID Error?

An invalid device ID error can stress you out, especially if the number you put is right!

After multiple tries and the resistance not to pull your hair, you would have to go to the Starlink website and go to a special form they have for this situation.

This form will ask for your contact details, the person you bought the hardware from, and pictures of the terminal ID number and dish number.

After sending the form to the customer support team, you would expert a reply within 3 days or so. The team will help you and tell you what to do.

Conclusion

If you want to change your internet provider, move or go on the road, transferring your Starlink and selling your hardware is an option!

There are many people out there who would want to buy it as well, as it will be faster than the waiting period.

However, if your area is at capacity, you still have to wait!
