A Guide on How to Reset Starlink

About A Guide on How to Reset Starlink: Factory resetting is an important troubleshooting step, so resetting the Starlink dish and router is crucial.

When you look at your hardware, there is no clear power/reset button to easily do this, but the process is fairly simple.

A factory reset is necessary, as maybe you are trying to fix a network problem or forgot your WiFi password. It happens to the best of us!

Read on to find out how to reset Starlink WiFi without any hassle.

Why Would You Need to Factory Reset Your Router?

Factory resetting your Starlink internet can help you solve many problems, such as bugs that may slow down the connection. Nothing is as bad as a slow WiFi connection!

When you do a factory reset, it erases all the user data from the router, including the connected devices and other information.

You might have connectivity issues because of network congestion or a bug that causes a quick drop in your internet speed. These problems are usually resolved when you perform a reset.

Your Starlink router also needs constant updates to ensure good performance and security so everything runs smoothly.

When you have these upgrades to do, that’s why you’d need to do a router reset.

A factory reset is also necessary to confirm configuration changes, such as security settings and password changes.

Other reasons also include the overheating of the router due to overuse and the presence of heat in the area.

A reset helps your device cool down and sort out any hardware problems.

You can also do a reset to remove settings, such as bypass mode, when you decide to sell your system.

Your Starlink router also keeps data in its cache and memory, so your performance is always at its best.

However, this can cause the system to go slow and impact internet speeds. A factory reset clears the cache, improving your speed and connectivity.

How To Factory Reset Your Starlink Router

Here are different ways to reset your router according to what type of dish you have.

Doing it Through the App

When using the Starlink app, make sure you are connected to another network or using your data when you want to reset the internet. Open the Starlink app and go to settings, which will be below the speed test.

On the router settings, scroll down to where you will find the option to do a factory reset.

You can slide the button to the right and a confirmation message asking if you’re sure. You can press yes and continue.

Rectangular Starlink Dish

  1. Go to the Starlink router and look for its power cord and the wall outlet.
  2. Do a power cycle sequence. Since there is no clear reset button on the router, you must do a power cycle three times. Unplug the router, wait 5 minutes, and then plug it back into the outlet. Repeat this for 2 more times to reset the router.
  3. Check if your router has been reset. Your router will take a while to start up again. Your old WiFi password, network name, and other settings will not be there anymore. You will need to connect to the default network after you do the reset. The default name you would see is STARLINK
  4. Set your WiFi network as you would want to. If you are not giving or selling your Starlink kit, then go ahead and set up your new network. Connect to the default network on your phone, then go to the Starlink app. You will be given the option to change the name and enter a new password. Once everything is set up, you can connect to the internet.

You would have to reconnect all the devices to the new WiFi network with the new password following the factory reset.

Circular Starlink Dish

This generation 1 Starlink dish is quite different from the rectangular dish. However, the process of resetting it is more straightforward.

Here are the steps to reset the circular Starlink dish:

  1. Look at the bottom of the router. You will see a small button that you can use to reset the router. You can use a paper clip or an earring to push it.
  2. The light on the router will become blue for some minutes. Please wait until it turns white, and then the router will restart. This will take a while, so be patient!
  3. Your network name will return to the default, which will be STINKY (funny, right?!) or TARLINK. You will find the name at the back of the router if you are not sure.
  4. When you go on the Starlink app, you can change the name and set a password.

Starlink Mesh Node

If you have the mesh nodes from Starlink and want to do a factory reset on them, it is very simple to do.

Here are the three simple steps:

  1. You have to do a power cycle, so unplug the power cord and put it back into the outlet. You have to do this three times, then wait for your mesh node to come back on.
  2. When restoring the node on your phone, you must confirm the connection to the main WiFi network, not the mesh node or default network.
  3. Then, go to your Starlink app. After 2 minutes, you will see a pop-up that says pair mesh node. Follow the instructions and pair your mesh network.
